Heritage Day

Heritage Day is an annual celebration of the region's rich history and bright future! It will be held on July 4th in person on the Museums’ beautiful three-acre campus, with live programming from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

This year marks 40 years of Heritage Day celebrations! The first Heritage Day at the Museums was held in 1981 to celebrate Rollo Jamison’s collection’s move to Platteville from Beetown, and was such a hit that the tradition has continued ever since.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of free programming from practical demonstrations of hit-and-miss engines and pedal-powered woodworking to mechanical music boxes and wool spinning, as well as 19th century games like hoops, stilts, and sack races. The fabulous Wundo Band will provide live music outdoors under a large tent from noon to 4 p.m. The Declaration of Independence will be read by seven community members at noon. The Platteville Music Boosters will again offer food and beverages for purchase.

This year we introduce arts and crafts kits for purchase with free instruction at our backyard craft tent. Mine Tours and Train Rides will be offered all day.

Reservations are suggested but not required.
